Customized
Veterinary Compounding Needs:
The
Compounding Solution - The practice of
pharmacy compounding is becoming a popular
solution to veterinary problems.
Compounding is the art and science of
preparing customized medications.
Pharmacists and veterinarians can work
together to improve and maximize the
therapeutic success and compliance of pets,
exotics, wildlife, zoo animals, large and
small animals
|
By
working closely with veterinarians a compounding
pharmacist can prepare medicines into
easy-to-give
flavored dosage forms.
We
solve dosage problems because just like their owners,
animals are individual and unique.
Commercially
unavailable medicine can be prepared as a dosage
strength and dosage form
appropriate for that pet’s
specific needs.
Contact your veterinarian to discuss specific
compounding needs.

TRANSDERMAL DRUG DELIVERY:
RAPID ABSORPTION CREAMS - Rapid
absorption creams possess several
advantages over more traditional
methods.
These include:
-
Avoidance
of first-pass metabolism and
variable rates of absorption
inherent with oral administration
-
Continuous,
non-invasive infusion of drugs
having short half-lives.
-
Avoidance
of the risks and inconvenience
associated with parental treatment
-
May
help to eliminate GI irritation resulting from
pharmaceutically active and
inactive ingredients.
|
Transdermal
penetration enhancers reversibly alter the
barrier function of the skin and allow
increased rate of percutaneous permeation of
co-administered drugs. Usually, doses of
0.1cc are adequate to incorporate active
ingredients. These alternate dosage
forms offer a cost effective route of
administration and good compliance by owners
and therefore animals.
Successful Treatments with Transdermals
include but are not limited to:
-
Antibiotics
-
Behavioral:
buspirone, fluoxetine, amitriptyline,
clomipramine, etc.
-
Other:
levothyroxine, methimazole, theophylline,
prednisone, prednisolone, fludrocortisone,
digoxin, etc.
