Star Care Lends a Helping Hand Through Services and Community
by: Micah Ferrel

Some of the most important things in life can often be the hardest to care for. During times of need, Star Care can help take care of those people who are most important to you: your loved ones. “We at Star Care help relieve the pressure off families by taking care of their loved ones’ medications and daily activities,” Kristina Ortega, a RN nurse and the Home Health Case manager said. Star Care offers two types of service for home-bound people. Home health services include people going through therapy, patients that need learning assistance about their disease, and any service that will require a nurse to assist during wound care. “ To have the opportunity to touch someone’s life in a positive way is a blessing. Everyone on staff feels this way. Not only are we doing a job we love, but we get to meet so many wonderful people through our services. You really have a strong bond with your    patients,” Ortega said. The second service Star Care offers is Hospice. Though it is similar to Home Health Care, Hospice has some differences. Hospice provides help for loved ones with a terminal diagnosis and with a six month or less prognosis. “Hospice is not about death, but about the quality of life during the end,” Tenna Rainwater-Kinabrew, Marketing Executive and Volunteer One of the main reasons Star Care is growing and progressing so rapidly is due to the new technology service product they provide. Doctors are able to view patient’s wounds and updated information through the World Wide Web. This online service is used by many local and out of state physicians.      Hospice and Home Health Care nurses are able to post journal entries and updated photos of the patient’s wound or disease for the doctors to view. In the near future, this online service will be open to public view. This means that relatives with passwords can view their loved one’s updates and records. They will be able to view the medications and procedures of their loved one. This site is completely safe and     protected so no unwanted viewers can hack into the system. Other than just providing Home Health     services, Star Care is very active in the community. Star Care has many community projects in and around the Hobbs area. One fundraiser this service created was Star Care’s annual bowling tournament. They were able to raise sixteen thousand dollars for the Humphrey House Kid’s Organization. “We want to be a part of the community. Our whole focus is to better people’s lives,” Ortega said.
